What I have learned at GOTR. . .

Girls on the Run has been such a positive influence in my daughter, Emma’s life. Being able to interact with positive role models as coaches has enabled Emma to acquire the tools she needs as a young girl in today’s society. The lessons that are taught have stayed with her years later. Not only has she been allowed to grow in a positive manner in her self growth, she also found her love of running! GOTR has been such a wonderful experience for her!
I am not only able to see the benefits of GOTR from the perspective of a mother, but I also am able to witness it as a teacher to many girls who participate in this program. I have seen many shy girls break from their shells after having experienced the benefits of GOTR. They may not always develop a love for running, but they are able to learn what it feels like set a goal and accomplish it. It is rewarding for me, as their teacher, to see these girls grow in their self-confidence after having completed GOTR.
The GOTR 5K Run is such an emotional event for all; the coaches, the girls, the parents, and the community. I have been to numerous GOTR 5K runs, even before my own daughter was involved, and have never been able to leave without tears in my eyes. The sheer joy of what these girls are experiencing after working so hard for these weeks is so evident and one cannot help but being caught up in the emotion of it all. GOTR is a wonderful program that helps put girls on the right track! - LoriAnn, Parent and Educator in Red Wing
